Introduction to Acidic Electrolyzed Oxidizing Water
Acidic electrolyzed oxidizing water (AOW) is a new generation of green, environmentally friendly, and highly efficient disinfectant. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a slight chlorine odor. Through the action of direct current in an ion-diaphragm electrolytic cell containing a specific proportion of electrolyte solution, a low-concentration available chlorine, high oxidation-reduction potential hypochlorous acid (HClO) containing acidic aqueous solution is generated on the anode side. By adjusting the pH value, oxidation-reduction potential, and available chlorine concentration, the microbial survival environment is altered, cell membrane permeability is enhanced, and internal metabolic enzymes are destroyed, leading to rapid microbial death.
On the cathode side, an alkaline aqueous solution containing hydroxide ions (OH⁻) is generated, which can be used for decontamination and cleaning. The Ministry of Health has classified acidic electrolyzed oxidizing water generators as medical devices for disinfection use in the healthcare industry.
Preparation Principle
An appropriate amount of low-concentration sodium chloride (NaCl) solution is added to an ion-diaphragm electrolytic cell. After electrolysis, on the anode side, chloride ions generate chlorine gas, which reacts with water to form hypochlorous acid (HClO) and hydrochloric acid (HCl). Simultaneously, water is electrolyzed at the anode, producing oxygen and hydrogen ions, resulting in a liquid with a pH value of 2.0-3.0, oxidation-reduction potential above 1100mV, and available chlorine concentration of 50mg/L-70mg/L on the anode side.
